In the atrium of the Palaceside Building shopping street (first floor and first basement, lined with restaurants and shops), tapestries designing all 55 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic sports in brush and ink are on display. Fewer than 200 days remain until the first Tokyo Olympics in half a century, and the mood is gradually rising.

The tapestries were installed by The Mainichi Newspapers, an official newspaper partner of Tokyo 2020. They were made by Yoshie Tanaka of the Mainichi Osaka projects department.

Let's look at a few. The four photos below, clockwise from top left, are badminton, rowing, karate, and athletics / modern pentathlon.

What do you think? There is a unique dynamism that uses the force of the brush. Of course Paralympic sports are included too (the photo at the end, below is wheelchair rugby).

These tapestries, together with the "TOKYO2020" lettering on the west-entrance stairs we introduced here on New Year's Day, are to stay up through the Games. Toward the event we plan further decorations inside and outside the building.
