Happy New Year. Please continue to look kindly on the Palaceside Building this year as well.
The Olympic year has begun at last. The letters "TOKYO2020" appear at the Palaceside Building west entrance. The Mainichi Newspapers, an official newspaper partner of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, put them there to lift the mood of the Games. Together with the Palaceside Building, The Mainichi Newspapers plans various decorations inside and outside toward the event — please look forward to them.
This year-end and New Year, many people may have a nine-day holiday. Those who have to work, thank you for your hard work.
Even so, "work-style reform" and labor shortages together seem to be increasing convenience stores and restaurants that close around New Year's Day = the photo at the end is the Mainichi Shimbun morning edition of December 27, 2019, reporting the rise in closures.
The Palaceside Building stayed open through the 30th at year-end and opens for the new year on January 4. Some restaurants and shops on the first floor and first basement also open that day, but not all, so please check with each shop. Sunday the 5th is a usual closed day; please note.
