Tonkatsu Maruya Takebashi opens at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, on the west first basement of the Palaceside Building. The exterior is largely finished; interiors are in the last push. It is the site of last year's Takehashi, so by chance two tonkatsu shops in a row.

Maruya is a chain of Maruya Japan Co. (president Koji Suzuki), with 12 shops mainly in Tokyo office districts such as Shimbashi, Yurakucho and Otemachi; Takebashi is the 13th. Some outlets operate as standing-bar tonkatsu Maruya or tonkatsu tavern Maruya.

Other menu: katsudon 800 yen, shrimp-cutlet teishoku 800, menchi-katsu teishoku 800, fillet-cutlet teishoku 1,000, katsu curry 800. For a downtown tonkatsu shop the prices stand out. At night, thick-cut loin teishoku, 1.5-times fillet teishoku and seafood mixed-cutlet teishoku are 1,300 yen each — generous plates. Beer, highballs, sake and wine (300–800 yen) are on hand for a light drink with a la carte.

Seats: 52 (including 12 at tables). Hours: weekdays 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m.–3 p.m. (last order 30 minutes before close). Closed Sundays and holidays.
