From Somei-yoshino to yaezakura — the downtown scene shifts in a blink.

The photo above was taken April 16 from beside the statue of Wake no Kiyomaro toward the Palaceside Building, the familiar an

gle. The view from here that catches the reflection in the moat is, I think, the building's best shot.

In fact the photo at left is as shot. In the opening photo the colors are a bit more vivid — can you tell? That is Google Photos' auto process. Blues bluer, pinks and greens a touch deeper and brighter. Pretty, yet it feels a little forced...

Every morning walking from Otemachi toward Takebashi, looking toward the Palaceside Building around the Meteorological Agency crossing, the scene is quite fine.

The two photos below are from near where you cross the light in front of the Agency toward the moat. Above is April 2015; below is this morning, April 17, 2019. The yaezakura here are truly vivid, but subway Takebashi Station is now under barrier-free work including an elevator to the street, so you cannot walk straight on the Uchibori-dori sidewalk. A white cloth covers the station sign (upper left of the photo) and a guard stands firm. You detour toward the Wake statue to Hirakawa-mon and the Palaceside Building.

The work is said to be for the Olympics, so next spring you should again walk Uchibori-dori while enjoying the yaezakura as before.
