From this morning, Thursday, September 27, a blood-donation bus — see the photo at the end — has been stationed in front of the Palaceside Building's west entrance for a mobile blood drive (photo above). The drive runs for two days, through tomorrow, Friday the 28th. Rain this morning was a bit of a worry, but we are grateful that some visitors already came at the 10 a.m. start of reception.
The Palaceside Building hosts a mobile blood drive twice a year, in spring and autumn, each for two days, and typically about 80 people take part.
Reception is 10:00–11:00 a.m. and 12:15–4:00 p.m. The blood draw itself takes about 10 minutes, but with a doctor's interview and other steps, the whole process from reception to finish takes 30 to 40 minutes.
While medical advances have increased demand for blood in surgery and other care, donors have declined, and supplies remain chronically short.
On the 27th, a marrow-bank donor registration session will also be held at the blood-drive site. Reception is 12:15–3:40 p.m. Registration, including an explanation and form, takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Eligible people are 18 to 54 years old, weighing at least 45 kilograms for men and 40 kilograms for women.
We warmly ask everyone in the building and passersby to help with blood donation and donor registration. Thank you.
