The Korean restaurant KOREAN DINING & BAR ROYAL opened on May 16 on the first basement level on the east side of the Palaceside Building (photo above). At lunch a line for seats forms at the entrance. The start looks quite strong.

Helped by the “Korean Wave” of the early 2000s, Korean food has taken root in Japan. Still, this is the first Korean restaurant in the Palaceside Building. Young women at the center? Not at all — older men love Korean food too. Young and

old, men and women, it looks set to draw a crowd.

The cooking is not only Korean barbecue. The shop has the feel of Korean home cooking. Main lunch items include stone-bowl bibimbap (980 yen), bibimbap (900 yen) and stone-bowl beef-galbi rice bowl (1,380 yen) with salad, soup and kimchi; samgyetang (1,480 yen) with rice and kimchi; and naengmyeon (980 yen) with salad and kimchi (photo at right). Quite a full lineup.

Dinner à la carte includes samgyeopsal (980 yen), bulgogi (1,650 yen), chive jeon (950 yen) and chicken-wing jorim (1,100 yen), plus various hot pots (photo below). There are large and small private rooms, including one for about 25. Banquet courses are A (4,000 yen), B (3,000 yen) and C (1,980 yen). All-you-can-drink is 1,800 yen for 90 minutes, 2,100 yen for two hours.

Hours are 11:00–23:30. Lunch until 16:00, dinner from 17:00.
