Palaceside Building’s New Year fixture, the volunteer fire brigade’s dechoshiki, was held on the roof on the morning of the 6th.
About 70 people took part from Mainichi Building Co., which manages the building, and the contracted firms Globeship (facilities), Aing and Mai-ei Security (security)

and Seibi (cleaning). The sun was out, but a cold north wind blew through; faces were serious.
Training began with first extinguishing by extinguisher under volunteer fire chief Tsuneo Haneda (president of Mainichi Building Co.), assuming a fire. Water-filled training gear is often used; this year they used the

“real thing” and blasted white agent with force (photo at right).
In indoor-hydrant hose work, the hose came out of its red case and they dashed to the “fire” with the nozzle (photo at left). When the round target marked “fire” was punched cleanly with water, sunlight hit the mist and a beautiful rainbow appeared (topmost photo).
Rescue, first aid and emergency care covered CPR with an AED (photo below, left), triangular-bandage first aid (photo below, middle), and carrying a casualty on a simple stretcher (photo below, right).
This year too we will keep drilling toward a safe, reassuring building.
