Have you noticed that just two marble floor slabs immediately to the left as you enter Palaceside Building's east main entrance somehow gleam? =(photo above)

The photo below is the same spot seen from a little farther away (from the first floor). Of course, this is man-made.

Palaceside Building marked its 50th anniversary on Oct. 1, but this floor has basically been left as it was when it was laid, with little more than daily cleaning.

More than 20,000 people enter and leave Palaceside Building every day (40,000 to 50,000 counting both entries and exits). This main entrance sees fewer people than the subway exits, but still about 2,000 pass through daily counting both ways. After 50 years, it could not have escaped wear

and tear. The surface is covered with countless scratches, and there are cracks in places.

Using the 50th anniversary as a chance, the building decided to try to make it as clean as possible, and the section in the photo is a small test polish.

Plans for a full cleaning project are still being finalized, but work is expected after November. Cracked sections will also be repaired as much as possible.

Restoring it to how it looked when the building opened will, of course, be difficult. But we hope even a brief "wow" from tenants and visitors will be possible.

During the work, some passages may be harder to use. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your cooperation.
