The IT firm Media Do has moved into two-thirds of the east side of Palaceside Building’s fifth-floor south wing. It is a company in the bloom of growth.
The tenant mix changes with the times. At the 1966 opening, so-called heavy industry was many: Tonen (now TonenGeneral), Yamashita-Shinnihon Steamship (via Navix Line, now Mitsui O.S.K. Lines). In the shift toward a service economy the faces changed. Tonen and Yamashita-Shinnihon left one after another; staffing firms such as Pasona came, then left for larger bases; job-and-career support and staffing advertiser Mynavi now occupies a large area.
This Media Do move is, in fact, the first TSE First Section firm to put headquarters functions here in quite a while — since Pasona left by 2010.
A little on what Media Do is.
“We hold as our business ideal the realization of a sound cycle of creating copyrighted works: distributing them as widely as we can under fair use and returning revenue to authors, and we want to contribute to cultural development in Japan and a richer society” (company site).
That is President Yasushi Fujita’s ideal.
In practice it is “an e-book distributor in the digital circulation of copyrighted works.” As a wholesaler of fast-growing digital content such as e-books, it works to deliver “as many titles as possible to as many people as possible.”
More concretely, it provides e-bookstores with systems to run online stores. It also promotes an “e-library service” that manages “free lending” of digitized books, aiming to “remove physical barriers from library use and help reduce regional gaps in ‘knowledge.’”
The new office has been opening in stages from July 4. Take the east elevator tower to the fifth floor and the main entrance jumps out. Just put into service this week. An automatic door between large bright-white lights, and the “Media Do” logo glowing on the black wall in front — photo above.
The company name has also been added to first-floor and other directories — photo below is just before the east first-floor elevator tower.

When visiting Media Do, please always use the east elevators. If you go up the west elevators to the fifth floor you cannot pass through the central corridor; please take care.
