Makeup of the north face (expressway side) of Palaceside Building finished this week. Looks clean, no? Hmm, hard to tell? Yes. It is not as if we slapped on bright-red

paint; the look has not changed much. But damaged spots were repaired and paint redone — it took work.
It was a sizable job, three years from starting on the south face in January 2013. We troubled tenants and building users in that time, but it finished safely. Thank you for your cooperation.
This work bundled painting of glass sash and exterior metal,

and waterproofing and painting of external walkways for maintenance — a large job. Scaffolding went up (photo at upper right, April 2015), protective sheets covered it (photo at lower right, September 2015), and white curing sheets were put on glass as a screen. For a time views and light from inside were blocked.
The south took a little over a year and

finished in March 2014. The north has been under way since September that year. The north includes parts close to the expressway, so fall-prevention nets had to be hung in advance to stop objects falling onto the road, and the schedule grew long.
Because of the scaffolding, the “smoking corner” just outside the first-floor west north entrance shrank, and we troubled smokers. It is fully back, so please smoke in the designated place (photo at upper left). In particular, beside the north entrance (between it and the smoking corner) trucks back in to load and unload; it is very dangerous, so please do not smoke there. Under the expressway is a Chiyoda Ward road, fully no-smoking under the ward ordinance. Street smoking

is subject to a fine; please take care (the photo at lower left enlarges the red circle in the photo at upper left).
