Filing for 2015 taxes begins on the 16th (Tue). With that, the usual free tax consultation of the Kojimachi Corporate Association and the Tokyo Certified Public Tax Accountants’ Association Kojimachi Branch is open from the 15th (Mon) in the “open space” beside the main entrance on the first floor of Palaceside Building. For three days through the 17th (Wed), 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., four tax accountants from the Kojimachi Branch will take questions centered on filing and will show how to fill in the forms. They will also give hands-on guidance on “e-Tax,” filing by computer.

If you had high medical costs, took out a housing loan, or donated to a charity — people who get some tax back by filing — why not consult. Even if you are not a high earner, anyone who had income from two or more places in 2015, side income of 20,000 yen or more such as manuscript or lecture fees, or a retirement payment not subject to withholding must file.

The My Number system also started this year. Entering a My Number on the return becomes obligatory from the 2016 filing a year later, but if you have questions about My Number as it relates to tax, please come by.

This year’s filing window runs through March 15 (Tue).
