Repainting work on the west elevator hall at Palaceside Building began on the night of Friday, December 18. From wall to ceiling, it is roughly a year since the east elevator hall from B1 to the 9th floor was refurbished over the year-end holidays — so this is a resumption after about a year. This time the west side will also include B2 through B5, which could not be done on the east last year. Everything is scheduled to be finished in the early hours of Monday, January 18.

The elevator-hall walls and ceilings have deteriorated with age, and as in the photo at left, scuffs from hand trucks near some elevator doors have become noticeable, so we decided to refurbish.
To keep disruption to a minimum, work is concentrated from Friday night through Monday morning and during the year-end building closure.
East B3 and B4 were already finished last weekend. There are slightly dented spots, like the gaps between elevator shafts, now painted gray; this time, as in the top photo, the east side has been painted azuki red (photo: B4). The west will be a deeper blue (photo: test coat on west B2 = photo lower right). As a “grown-up building,” both colors are subdued.
Because the circular hall is done in halves,

only four of the eight elevators will run at a time, and the stairs at the back will be a little harder to pass. On some days from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., elevators to B3, B4 and B5 will be unavailable; in that case please use the hall stairs at the rear or the freight elevator. At night, toilets on floors under construction may be closed for periods; please use those on floors above or below.
We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding and cooperation.
